According to Cockfield, “the scope of a project can be either the work content or component of a project. It can be fully described by naming all activities performed, the end products which result and the resources ‘consumed’” (Cockfield, 1987). Since effective scope management is vital to project success, it is important for project managers to be familiar with techniques that help identify, define, and record project objectives. Peter Landau covers some of the ways to manage scope in his article at the link below.
